To All Our Walkers...[The following is adapted from the thank you letters the Chapter sent to Walkers] Dear Walker: All it took was one family to give the 1st Annual Harrisburg Walk to D'Feet ALS life! "We decided as a family how to respond to this. We educated ourselves and we are trying to educate others. Our mom and dad fight the good fight every moment of every day, and we are committed to helping others with ALS continue to enjoy their lives." With those words, Scott E. Zimmerman and his sister, Jody Zimmerman Laverty, took and the lead and the first Walk to D'Feet ALS became a reality. As you may be aware, Scott's and Jody's father, Bruce W. Zimmerman, has been living with ALS since January 2000. Instead of sitting back and watching the evils of ALS take its toll, Scott and Jody decided to do something about it. They worked tirelessly knowing that, with each Walker they recruited, those with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) would have a better life. Thanks to YOU, we are able to continue providing cutting-edge research as well as programs and services available no place else. You, along with more than 740 other Walkers pounded the pavement at the 1st Annual Harrisburg Walk to D'Feet ALS, wearing brightly colored team t-shirts honoring and remembering loved ones touched by ALS. Not only did the even raise in excess of $118,000, it also raised awareness! It brought patients and families together to share their stories. Sunday, June 10, 2001 was a very special day for everyone who participated. It was a day to laugh and to cry but most importantly it was a day for hope. Your help and your team's effort raised the money that will help those stricken with ALS. THANK YOU for your contribution to the fight against ALS. See you next year! Warmest regards, Julie A.
