LOCAL RESIDENTS NAMED TO ALS ASSOCIATION, GREATER PHILADELPHIA CHAPTER BOARD OF DIRECTORSFORT WASHINGTON, Pa. � March 4, 2002 �
The ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter.
Based in Fort Washington, Pa., recently named the following eight people to its board of directors:
�Our new board members have all been committed ALS advocates and fundraisers for years,� said Benjamin Ohrenstein, chairman of the chapter�s board of directors. �Welcoming them to their new leadership positions is a pleasure for me and the hundreds of people living with ALS and their families in the Delaware Valley.� The ALS Association board of directors supervises the chapter in its mission to provide funding and support for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) patients, education and research. Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disorder that slowly paralyzes and kills its victims. The cause of and cure for ALS remain unknown. Celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2002, The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of The ALS
Association is the largest and most active chapter in the nation. It sponsors an extensive variety
of patient services, funds cutting-edge scientific research, and supports both The ALS Association
Center of the Penn Neurological Institute at Pennsylvania Hospital and The ALS Clinic at the Milton
S. Hershey Medical Center. The Chapter has been the official charity of the Philadelphia Phillies
