FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Bruce
W. Zimmerman Retires November 30, 2001 CEO
of B.W. Zimmerman & Associates (BWZA) HARRISBURG, PA (November 26, 2001) The first non-toll agency Honorary Board Member of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA), Bruce W. Zimmerman (Zim) is retiring as CEO of B.W. Zimmerman & Associates on November 30, 2001. Bruce and his son Scott founded BWZA in 1995 and Zim served as President & CEO until about a year and a half ago. At that time, he passed the torch of President to Scott E. Zimmerman, MBA. Zims daughter, Jody Zimmerman Laverty, BS, took over as Senior Vice President; she had joined the firm in 1997, adding her skills in marketing, advertising, and customer relations. Over the past seven years, Bruce continued to strengthen the BWZA team as he added key associates with vast toll, engineering, management, operations, and systems experience. Bruce stated, Our customers will not notice a change in the level of service when I retire. I have carefully created this business as a legacy to my children and am pleased to leave it to them and the capable hands of the other principals at BWZA. Of course, I will still participate in the business in an advisory capacity and help in any way I can. I want to take this opportunity to thank our many friends that we have made over the years in the toll business and hope that they will continue to keep in touch with JoAn and me. Zim has fifty years of experience and is well known in the worldwide toll industry for his honesty, hard work, dedicated service, devotion to customer satisfaction and ability to objectively solve problems. He has personally directed numerous successful Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system integration, installation and maintenance projects for many toll authorities. He is well versed in all systems of toll roads, as he has been intimately involved in the planning process, design, integration, installation and maintenance of those systems. While directing associates at BWZA, Zim assisted customers at the Massachusetts Turnpike, Tobin Memorial Bridge (MassPort), Ohio Turnpike Commission, New Jersey Regional ETC Consortium, British Columbia Transportation Financing Authority, South Carolina Department of Transportation, Kansas Turnpike Authority, City of Laredo International Bridge System, Maryland Transportation Authority, Florida Department of Transportation, and Delaware River and Bay Authority, among others. Bruce has been an active member of the IBTTA for thirty-five years, has been a member of the Maintenance and Engineering, Design & Research Committees for decades, and made a number of presentations, including in Italy and Savannah, Georgia. The IBTTA presented Zim and JoAn with an award in 1995 for their tireless efforts on behalf of the Association and in May of 2000, his family received a Resolution of Appreciation from the IBTTA. Zim lives in Hummelstown, PA with JoAn and is the proud father of two children and six grandchildren. In January 2000, Zim was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrigs disease; he continues a valiant fight against this devastating disease on a daily basis, with the assistance of the love of his life, his wife of almost forty-eight years. In support of Bruces personal mission to help those afflicted by this insidious disease, his family, friends and business associates have joined together to help raise funds and awareness for the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association (www.alsphiladelphia.org) and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (www.mdausa.org). BWZA is a consulting firm based in Harrisburg, PA specializing in providing a range of professional management and technical advisory services to a variety of clients, particularly toll and transportation authorities and agencies.
